The Inner Circle occasionally employs the use of freelancers to work on our various projects. If you are interested in working with us, please refer to the frequently asked questions below.
Are you currently hiring freelancers?
It really depends. While we are always on the lookout for professional
quality writing and artwork we don't employ a lot of freelancers.
If we like your work and we don't have anything currently available,
we will gladly add you to our pool of freelancers and contact
you if something becomes available. One thing to keep in mind
is that we are extremely picky with who we hire and we are
working with a very tight budget, so don't be offended if we
say no. We are adamant in making sure you deliver your best work
so if you can't take criticism or meet deadlines, please do not apply.
What
type of work are you looking for?
We are looking for artists to illustrate characters, creatures,
and landscapes from our Violet Dawn campaign setting. We also
have an occasional need for cartography and coloring. We have no use
for graphic design, logo design, web design, or layout work as we do
all of that in house. We do show a preference to digital artists
who work in Painter or Photoshop, but we have no problem hiring
a solid traditional artist.
We are also looking for writers with a great grasp of d20 System mechanics for 4th Edition (currently we are not producing any 3.5 or Pathfinder material). We're specifically looking for a new take on game mechanics as we push the boundaries with our products. For a good example of the type of mechanics work we want, take a look at any of our previously released products. For non-mechanics related writing, we want well written pieces with few grammatical errors and a consistent voice.
What
type of art style are you looking for?
We are looking for modern fantasy illustrations akin to what
you see in our artwork section. We have
no need for anime, comic-styled artwork, or photography. We like
that type of work and it has a place, it just doesn't fit our
products. We do have guidelines that we provide to all of our
freelance artists which go into more detail. Those guidelines
are available in PDF format here.
What is your pay scale?
We pay $25 and up for illustrations and between 2 to 5 cents a word for written work. We purchase all rights
since you will be working on our Violet Dawn IP. We do grant
you the rights to use your work for self promotional purposes.
Pay rates could be more or less. It really depends upon the
person, the quality of their work, and their experience in
the industry. If you are not willing to grant us all rights
to your work, please do not apply as we cannot work any other
way.
Do you
accept submission ideas for modules or products?
At this time we are only producing products for Violet Dawn.
If you have an idea for a specific product that would work as
part of our Violet Dawn Product Line, send us a query letter
explaining the product and we will get back to you. Remember
we are only interested in 4th Edition material.
I'm interested.
What next?
Fill out our feedback form and someone from our submissions department
will get back to you. If you have a website, please provide a
link to it. If you would rather submit samples via email, send
us a brief introduction and someone will get back to you with further
instructions.
How long does it take to get a response?
Depending on how many submissions we have in the pipeline, turnover
can be as short as a day or as long as a week. If more than a
week has gone by and you still haven't heard from us, send
us another email and we will let you know the status of your
submission.
